1972 Competition

50 years after Junghans' great milestone in sports timekeeping, the new 1972 Competition sports watch honours this special moment.
The bullhead look, which is based on a stopwatch as well as the pusher and crown on top of the watch, the orange colour accents and the oval-shaped case are a reminder of its historical role model and bring the seventies back to life in a modern way.
The sports watch is a real eye-catcher and limited to a number of 1972 pieces.

As the official timekeeper, Junghans made "honest sports time" possible with new techniques such as the start control system and double light barriers. False starts were recognised immediately.
When the athletes have catapulted out of the blocks, run down the track and cross the finish line, they trigger a timing camera that captures each participant in their track.
The Junghans finish line cameras documented the race for the gold medals and provided a Polaroid colour picture of the finish line after only 10 seconds.
The electronic digital clock "counter 7202" displays the time accurately to the hundredth of a second. It also supplies the time to secondary displays, such as the stadium displays or to the TV stations.
